There aren't very many tools that you'll need in order to make slime; it's a very simple and straightforward process. What you do use, however, should be sturdy, non-breakable, but no big loss if you should ruin it. Think heavy plastics and wooden spoons.

To make slime, you'll need:

  • 2 large mixing bowls
  • something to stir it with (like a mixing spoon)
  • 1 measuring cup and measuring spoons

Gather Your Ingredients

You only need a few things to make basic slime. The first you'll need is borax powder, which is essential to the process. Next, you'll need standard school glue, the white kind. You'll also need warm water. For colored slime, you'll need food coloring in your choice to achieve the desired effect.

Make the Borax Mixture

To make this mixture, which is essential to the slime recipe, simply:

  1. Measure out a tablespoon of borax powder and one cup of warm water. It should be warm, not hot.
  2. Pour both of these ingredients into one of the large mixing bowls.
  3. Stir this mixture until the borax is completely dissolved. There should be no clumps of borax visible in the water.

Make the Glue Mixture

Now, for the second part of the slime recipe! In order to make the glue mixture, you'll need both glue and warm water.

  1. Add half a cup of white school glue and a half a cup of warm water into the second large mixing bowl.
  2. Stir until the two ingredients are well combined. It will be of a watery consistency.

Add the Food Coloring

This is a really fun part! Because, as we all know, slime is only as fun as the color that it is!

Simply take your food coloring (green is the most common) and add some drops into the glue mixture, stirring to mix it in. The brighter you want it, the more food coloring you should use. You can even separate the glue mixture, and color each separate mixture a different color!

Combine Mixtures

This is fairly simple.

All that you have to do is dump the mixtures together into one of the mixing bowls, and begin to stir. Make sure that you're stirring well! Otherwise, the slime won't turn out as well as it should. While doing this, you should see the slime beginning to form in the bowl.

Little Extras

There are other little extras that you can add into your slime to make it even more fun. For instance, some people like to put glitter in theirs, for a little shine. Others like to use little beads, for a fun texture. Add them in as you're stirring.

Let it Sit

Now you just need to let it sit for thirty second. This allows the slime to begin to solidify, turning it from a mostly-liquid mixture to the slime we all know and love. After thirty seconds, it should be done. There will likely be a bit of water left in the bowl. Simply remove the slime from the bowl, and you're done!

Slime is great for kids, teens, and kids-at-heart of all ages! It's simple, soothing to play with, and fun to make. So there's no excuse not to enjoy it, no matter how old you are!
