How to Take Care of Your Nails

You might not know this, but nails are actually an important part of your body. Taking care of your nails isn’t as hard as you would think. You only need a couple of items to make sure your nails stay healthy and strong. You also won’t need to spend a lot of time on them. Find out how to take care of your nails by following a few simple steps.

Clipping Your Nails

How short do your nails have to stay? Are you a musician that needs to keep their nails short, or are you a beauty blogger that needs to test out all kinds of nail products. How often you need to clip your nails should depend on how fast they grow and how short or long they need to be. When you’re cutting your nails, try to make sure that they don’t bend. It can weaken them.

Filing Your Nails

When you’re filing your nails, make sure that you only file them in one direction. If you file them back and forth, you could cause them to chip and break. Make sure you don’t file too much, as you could accidentally hurt yourself.

Nail Oil

A great way to help protect your nails is using nail oil. This is can be coconut oil, flaxseed oil, olive oil, etc.. They aren’t expensive and you probably already have them in your kitchen. Not only will the oil strengthen your nails, it will also moisturize your cuticles.

For some people, using nail strengthening polish works wonders. Others might not like to put polish on their nails. It really depends on you whether or not you want to use it. If you do plan on using it, trying picking out the polish from a brand that’s well known. Don’t worry if it’s on the pricier side, as the bottle will last you a while.

I know it’s weird that nail polish has been added to this page, but you have to admit, when you have nail polish on, it basically creates a protective barrier around your nails. The reason why some nail polishes stain is because they either aren’t made correctly, or you didn’t put a good bottom coat on.

Let Them Rest

If you apply nail polish a lot, you might want to let your nails take a break every so often. While nail polish might not be so bad with a bottom coat underneath it, the remover can be quite harsh for your nails. Once you remove the old layer, let your nails rest for 1-2 weeks before applying a new shade of color.

It’s really not that hard to care for your nails. However, if you are someone that likes to experiment around with new products, then you might need to spend a little extra time taking care of them. Make sure to research all the products that you plan on buying before putting them on your nails. If you aren’t careful, the products could damage your nails!
